The Atchanan River is periodically polluted with the wastes of Artsvanik tailing dump, which is evident from the video report circulated by the mass media…The residents of Syunik community used the water of the Atchanan river to irrigate their homestead lands and regularly express their discontent. The products grown in the homestead lands are sold in the markets of Kapan and according to the specialists, people who use this food endanger their health. Under Syunik Community Head Samvel Sargsyan, as there is a problem with irrigation, many land areas are not irrigated. “Irrigation water is polluted with the wastes of Zangezour Copper and Molybdenum Combine, which causes a number of problems in the community,” he said… We intend to take water from the upper part of the Atchanan River, where water is not polluted, this project costs 300 million AMD (over US 0,000), while the community should invest 10%, i. e. 30 million AMD. Our budget can’t afford this,” the village head said… The villagers acknowledge when buyers learn where their products are from, they don’t buy them, saying these land areas are irrigated with tails…That’s why we give our products for resale…”
