The government is lowering the category of the land areas for the construction of small HPPs at high rates. Syunik Regional Head Suren Khachatryan worked out construction plans for another two HPPs, for which the government will discuss the decision on changing the category of the land areas in two communities at the meeting on 12 April: 0.3504 ha in Nor Astghaberd and 0.1 ha in Qarahunj.
The construction of one HPP is supposed to be conducted on the tributaries of Achibad and Birrs of the Geghi River. The construction of another HPP is supposed to be conducted on Vararakn tributary of the Vorotan River.
A cascade has already been built on the Vorotan River, which consists of the complex of three power stations. Ten small HPPs are supposed to be constructed on the Geghi Rover, one of them on Gyard Tributary, which supplies drinking water to Kapan Town by 50%.
