Water and Soil Pollution Causes Disastrous Condition in Qajaran
EcoLur
The water and soil pollution causes a disastrous condition in Qajaran. Upon Qajaran Municipality’s order, RA NAS Ecological Center for Noosphere Studies published “The Ecological and Geochemical Assessment of Qajaran Town Environment” (authors – A. K. Saghatelyan, V. Sh. Gevorgyan, A. H. Arevshatyan and L. V. Sahakyan, Yerevan, 2008) and under this book, the concentration of sodium in the waters of Voghji River exceeded the background by 2.5 times, potassium– 2, calcium – 2.5, magnesium – 4. The concentration of mercury in Ttu Jur sprig exceeded MPC by 1.2 times, manganese – 4.9. Arsenic in the water of No. 1 well exceeded the background of local waters 1000 times. The concentration of mercury in the water of this well made up 23.4 μg/l, molybdenum – 1619 μg/l, copper – 27.1 μg/l, manganese – 269 μg/l, arsenic – 680.4 μg/l. The concentration of mercury in the water of Ttu Jur spring made up 0.06 μg/l, manganese - 245μg/l. The concentration of sodium in the water of Voghji River made up 37.5μg/l, potassium - 20μg/l, calcium - 250 μg/l, magnesium - 200 μg/l.
Under EcoLur's Ecological Risk Model, the disastrous condition in the Voghji River was conditioned with the high concentration of magnesium and excessive concentrations of arsenic, mercury and molybdenum in the water of N1 well.
In the central, northern, southern and eastern parts of Qajaran town the concentration of molybdenum exceeded MPC by 100 times, in the dominant part of land cover the copper exceeded MPC up to three times, while the concentration of lead in the central part of the town exceeded MPC up to 9 times. Thus, the concentration of molybdenum in Qajaran soil made up 100 mg/kg in the land, copper – 9 and lead – 270 mg/kg in the land. Under EcoLur's Ecological Risk Model, the disastrous condition of Qajaran soil pollution was conditioned with the excessive concentrations of molybdenum and lead.
