At its meeting held on 20 April 2021, Yerevan City Aldermen’s Council gave its consent to join "Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy" initiative.
According to the substantiation of the decision, in case of joining the initiative, Yerevan will have to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 30% until 2030 and undertakes commitments to increase its resilience due to its adaptation to climate change. At the same time, after joining the Covenant, the Sustainable Energy Action Plan (SESP) will be reviewed and new climate change mitigation and environmental measures will be envisaged.
