An interdepartmental working group has been established to study the issue related to the economic activities of "Armoil" CJSC, as Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan reached this decision on July 28.
According to the decision, the head of the interdepartmental working group must submit to RA Prime Minister within a month after the decision enters into force the possibilities of launching the factory built by "Armoil" CJSC, the relevant solutions proposed by the working group in the form of a road map.
It should be reminded that "Armoil" company has built an oil refinery in Yeghvard Town in Kotayk Region, a few tens of meters away from the houses in Nati district. The construction of this factory caused a stir among the locals and nearby businesses. Residents warned that the factory was too close to houses and gardens, that they could not live near such a dangerous production. In addition, their opinion was not considered when building the plant.
The plant was built without environmental expert assessment. In 2019, RA Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Suren Papikyan, in response to the inquiry of by MP Sofya Hovsepyan, stated that the factory was being built with certain violations of the fire-fighting requirements of the construction norms operating in Armenia. In particular, the minimum distances from some of the spaces to the road, residential houses and adjacent organization are not preserved.
