World Meteorological Day Celebrated under Slogan "At Forefront of Climate Action

On March 23, the world celebrated World Meteorological Day with the slogan "At Forefront of Climate Action". UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres announced: " Climate justice must be ensured for developing countries, as they bear the least responsibility for the crisis."

Armenia's share in global emissions is only 0.02 percent. However, the country is affected by climate change. The rate of increase in air temperature in Armenia exceeds the average rate of global warming, Levon Azizyan, Director of "Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center" of RA Ministry of Environment, noted during a press conference held at "Armenpress" Press Club.

"If during the period of 1935-2023 the air temperature in Armenia increased by 1.6 degrees, it has risen by 1 degree in the world. Air temperature growth trends in Armenia have significantly intensified since the 2000s. Every 10 years the average air temperature rises by 0.6 degrees," Levon Azizyan noted.

Azizyan also reported the global climate change data . "The hottest year was 2023. According to the forecasts, 2024 will be the warmest year with a 45% probability, and with a 99% probability, it will be among the five warmest years.
