Russian “Krematorij” rock group musician Armen Grigoryan addressed a letter to Armenian PM Tigran Sargsyan, which says, “Gigantic wastes of polyvinylchloride, polyethylene and other garbage are burnt round the clock in the territory of Yerevan, near “third village” area thus emitting lethal doses of dioxine, mercury and other poisons into the atmosphere. The suburbs of Yerevan have turned into one big rubbish heap, while there is no governmental fight against such non-civilized phenomenon. Moreover, waste recycling methods have already become out-of-date and cause irreversible damage to human health. While high indicators of sterility, cancer diseases and other incurable diseases among Armenian population are the direct result of this recycling method, which doesn’t comply with any European standards we strive to. I’m sure that we will realize the whole seriousness of this problem and will urgently take measures to stop garbage burning near settlements and will assist in moving dustbins to safe distances in near future, as well as proceed to the modern technologies designed for garbage processing,” the statement says.
