Mercury, Arsenic, Lead and Cadmium Detected in Yerevan Air


Dust load is rather high in Yerevan. In all seasons, heavy metals and first-hazard class elements- mercury, arsenic, lead and cadmium contain the dust.
The territories adjacent to “Maqur Yerkat” and “Molybdenum Construction” enterprises are most polluted with heavy metals, where the composition of various heavy metals in dist significantly exceeds the maximum permissible concentration.
The material disseminated by “Pan-Armenian Environmental Front” entitled “Whether or Not to Breathe”, which is the studies of geochemical emissions into Yerevan atmosphere carried out by the Ecological Center for Noosphere Studies of NAS RA. Yerevan downturn turned out to be the most polluted one. High load of dust has been recorded in the north-east of the capital.
There are officially recorded and developed 39 sand mines in Yerevan territory, which are the largest pollution sources. Urban transportation also plays a negative role.
Vegetation-free are secondary sources of pollution because of green zone reduction and the location of Yerevan in semi-desert area. The effect of dust is negative on the human health, while small granules of the dust can be carcinogenic.
