During the sitting of RA Government held on February 4, speaking about the investment programs, RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan referred to Amulsar gold-quartzite mine development project and the mining sector. He noted that decisions need to be reached so as to make certain investment programs more manageable and acceptable to the public. The Prime Minister, in particular, said that these decisions also refer to the work carried out within the framework of the well-known investment project in Amulsar. "This issue should be discussed, taking into account Armenia's balanced interests, we should try to find solutions," he said.
Reminder: the criminal case on intentional concealment of information on environmental pollution related to Amulsar gold-bearing quartzite mining is being investigated in the proceedings of the Central Office of General Department of Investigation of Particularly Important Cases of RA Investigative Committee, within the frameworks of which complex ecological, geological, hydrological, geophysical, chemical, construction and technical expert assessment has been appointed, which was commissioned to Lebanese company - Earth Link & Advanced Resources Development (ELARD). The Armenian government paid $ 450,944 to the Lebanese company for the examination of the documents. As a result of the examination, ELARD noted a number of risks in its report identified in the environmental impact assessment report of the Amulsar project.
Following the publication of this conclusion, the issue of annulling the environmental expert opinion on the Amulsar project was raised, which was suspended. The fate of the Amulsar project is still unclear.
