EcoLur continues its series of reports from the public hearings on Amulsar open pit mining and the construction of a heap leach facility, which was held on 25 August in Gndevaz Village, Vayots Dzor Region.
Reminder: a part of Gndevaz villagers left the hall having refused to take part in the hearings in the format proposed by the organizers – “Geoteam” CJSC and Gndevaz Village administration.
Gndevaz Village Head to “Geoteam” CJSC Director Hayk Aloyan:
“Mr. Aloyan, on the behalf of our villagers I would like to ask to have a separate meeting with our villagers after the public hearings… A Q&A session mainly in regard with the land areas…Mr. Aloyan, do you agree to meet with our villagers after the meeting?”
Hayk Aloyan: “Sure, sure…so far we have had dozens of meetings with the communities and we are willing to discuss each question, to decide on each issue, as we can’t without cooperating with the communities.”
After the end of the public hearings, Gndevaz villagers gathered in the hall. The village head asked not to shoot the meeting. “Let them not record it,” the village head said.
“Let the camera shoot the meeting,” the resident opposed.
After the cameras were placed, the village head told the villagers opposing to the mining project, “After negotiating with the government and different meeting, I understood one thing, the mine will be developed, as it’s necessary for our country and our state. The PM spoke to me, different officials spoke to me…”
The villagers interrupted the village head, “Which Prime Minister?”
“It’s clear that the current one,” Gndevaz Community Head Hayrapet Mkrtchyan said.
After a short break the village head stated that the meeting is postponed and Gndevaz villagers will be notified about the date and venue in advance.
