All residents in Yerevan, who keep dogs and cats in the house or in the yard, must register their pets from November 1. Yerevan Aldermen’s Council clarified the recent changes in the rules of keeping pets and where and how the registration will be done.
"Several points were laid down in the rules. The first is the process of registering pets, the second is the requirement for veterinary services, which is related to the citizens and animal safety, and the third is the process of issuing permits,” Grigor Nazaryan, Head of Environment Department of Yerevan Municipality said.
"With the new amendments, pet keepers are obliged to register their dogs, cats and pets in the staffs of the administrative districts, where there will be special staff. This decision has many advantages, for example, if the animal is on the street, find the owner and return it. And the ultimate goal, of course, is to make the number of dogs on the street manageable, after which it will be possible to create shelters in the future,” Sergey Apresyan, a member of Yerevan Aldermen’s Council says.
In order to obtain a permit to keep a pet, you must submit the animal's veterinary passport, which will contain information about the required vaccinations and identification. Identification is done in veterinary clinics by means of a tattoo or a microchip. This is a process that has long been accepted in the world, thanks to which people can even travel with their pets.”, as the official website of Yerevan Municipality informs.
