The long-legged crayfish in Lake Sevan is on the verge of extinction: this is confirmed by the results of the research carried out by Scientific Center of Zoology and Hydroecology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia.
The total mass of crabs in Lake Sevan in 2021 made about 78 tons. Compared to 2020, stocks decreased by 27 tons. One of the reasons for the decline in the crayfish population is illegal fishing.
One of the reasons for the sharp decrease in the number of crayfish since 2018 is the chronic fungal disease that started in the population.
