Every year on October 4, World Animal Day is celebrated all over the world. This date was established as an animal protection day in 1931 in Florence during an international congress organized by supporters of the nature conservation movement.
October 4 was chosen because that day is known as the commemoration of Francis of Assisi, who is considered the patron saint of animals. Every year on this day, animal protection structures of many countries of the world organize various public events and actions in defense of animal rights. Animal rights advocacy aims to raise public awareness of environmental protection and animal protection.
This year, actions and charity events dedicated to the day will be held all over the world.
According to the WWF, three animal species disappear every hour on the planet Earth, and 70 species of flora and fauna disappear on a daily basis, and a quarter of all species of flora and fauna will cease to exist in the near future.
Armenia's natural world also has many extinct, endangered and vulnerable animal species. Under RA Government's decision No. 71 of January 29, 2010, approved the Red Book of RA animals. The book includes 153 species of vertebrates, including 7 species of bony fish, 2 species of amphibians, 19 species of reptiles, 96 species of birds and 29 species of mammals. Also included for the first time are 155 species of invertebrates, including 139 species of insects and 16 species of gastropods.
