The Armenian branch of the German Nature Conservation Society has initiated public voting for 2024’s "Bird of Year" annual eco-educational campaign on its social platforms and website. The Armenian branch of the German Nature Conservation Union reports that 33 bird species of Armenia were proposed in the first round of voting.
The 5 bird species that received the most votes, the wood pigeon, the white-tailed eagle, the green bee-eater, the Armenian vulture and the white-tailed eagle, are in the second round of voting. Voting will last until November 15 inclusive.
The purpose of the annual “Bird of Year” educational campaign is to select a bird species that symbolizes that year each year and to draw the attention of the general public to the importance of protecting that species and its habitats.
