Through Notification 2026-041 issued by the CBD Secretariat, the process of participant registration and delegation nomination has officially begun. Governments, international organizations, and observer organizations are invited to submit information on their delegations to the Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity by September 15, 2026.
At the same time, subject to the availability of contributions to the Special Voluntary Trust Fund established to facilitate participation in CBD processes, financial support opportunities will also be available for representatives of developing countries, small island developing states, and countries with economies in transition. The deadline for financial support applications is July 15, 2026.
Representatives of organizations already accredited as observers to CBD meetings may register upon submission of an official letter addressed to the CBD Executive Secretary indicating the names and contact details of delegation members, as well as clearly specifying the meeting or meetings they intend to attend. The letter must be sent electronically to the Secretariat at [email protected] no later than September 15, 2026.
The notification also outlines the requirements for new organizations seeking observer status. Such organizations must submit an official application to the CBD Secretariat by August 31, 2026, together with their legal registration documents and information demonstrating their activities in the field of biodiversity.
For Indigenous Peoples and local community organizations, the deadline for financial support applications has been set for July 1, 2026. Only applications submitted by Indigenous Peoples and local community organizations already accredited to the CBD will be duly considered. New organizations representing Indigenous Peoples and local communities wishing to apply to the Voluntary Trust Fund (VB Trust Fund) must complete the accreditation process by June 26, 2026.
Online registration for the above-mentioned meetings is expected to open on May 15, 2026. Additional details regarding the registration process will be published later, while participants are encouraged to register as early as possible.
Meanwhile, Notification 2026-042 announces the launch of the application process for side events, exhibition areas, and pavilion spaces within the framework of COP17. Online applications for side events will be accepted until June 30, 2026. According to the official announcement, priority will be given to events jointly organized by multiple partners.
In addition, organizations and countries are invited to rent pavilion and exhibition spaces, as well as dedicated country offices, on a commercial basis. Due to anticipated high demand, expressions of interest should be submitted as early as possible, but no later than May 25, 2026. Confirmation of applications is expected to be completed by June 5, 2026.
