Polluted Air Makes COVID Consequences Worse

Today, as humanity around the world tries to resist the pandemic of coronavirus, the United Nations reminds us how important it is to have a clean environment at such times.

 "It is important to note that polluted air makes the consequences of COVID-19 worse. The current situation calls attention to the importance of forests in our lives. They clean the air from pollution, help regulate air temperatures in cities, protect against landslides and floods, and, of course, help curb global warming. Only one tree consumes 150 kg of carbon dioxide gas per year. Forests and green areas, in general, are our allies in the fight against air pollution,” the UN says.

WMO Secretary-General Petteri Taalas outlines that with the same unity and effort that humanity is fighting to leash the coronavirus epidemic, it must also fight climate change that leads to natural disasters around the world.
