"Armenia's National Adaptation Plan" (NAP) Project: Activities and Achievements

The outcomes of "Armenia's National Adaptation Plan" (NAP) of the United Nations Development Program-Green Climate Fund were summarized during the final workshop. The project was implemented by UNDP with the funding of the Green Climate Fund.

The goal of this project is to support Armenia in overcoming existing obstacles in 6 priority areas of adaptation to climate change and prioritize investments by increasing access to financial resources. The sectors identified by the program are agriculture, energy, water resources, healthcare, tourism and settlements.

Project coordinator Gohar Hovhannisyan presented the main achievements during the final workshop of the project.

Improvement of the legislative sphere is one of the main achievements of the project. Six draft decisions of RA Government, one draft decision of RA Prime Minister and one draft decision of RA Deputy Prime Minister were developed.

Tavush and Shirak Region adaptation programs and event lists, Yerevan city adaptation program were developed. A collection of geographic information system maps of climatic and related natural hazards and risks was developed for Shirak and Lori Regions.

A set of recommendations has been developed for the implementation of international standards for the modernization of irrigation regimes, flood risk management, wastewater treatment and disposal.
