From Vedi to Sharm El Sheikh: COP27 Armenian Youth Delegates Speaking

Two young delegates from Armenia, Narek Ohanyan and Yerazik Hoveyan, participated in the 27th Conference of the Parties to the Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) held in November 2022 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. At COP27, they also presented as high-level youth climate champions from the Europe and Central Asia region.

Narek and Yerazik are from Vedi Town, Ararat Region. Together with friends, they formed a "Start-up" team, which created the board game "Climapolis", through which they present how to reduce the effects of climate change. Young COP27 delegates shared their impressions at the signing event of "Intergovernmental Declaration on Children, Youth and Climate Action".

"We couldn't even imagine that one day our program could reach Sharm El Sheikh from Vedi, and that too at COP27. There we met decision-makers, politicians, young activists, with whom we became friends. We are all united around one idea. Yes, this problem concerns us, it affects us, and this is our responsibility," Yerazik Hoveyan said. "We hope that all this is really to make the voice of young people louder and take their opinion into account."

"I hope that the points of this declaration will not remain on paper, and Environment Ministry will really ensure the participation of young people," Narek Ohanyan said.
