Public Journalists on Climate Change Resilience Training Sessions Held in Regions

Within the framework of ""Living Landscapes for Market Development in Armenia" (LILA) project, the WWF Armenia office conducted trainings on climate change resilience for local government representatives and residents of the beneficiary settlements of the project in the settlements of Debed in Lori Region, Yenoqavan in Tavush Region and Vayq in Vayots Dzor Region. The courses were conducted by Head of Department of Crop Production and Soil Science of the National Agrarian University of Armenia Gagik Tovmasyan and Director of "Armenian Center of Green Technologies" Foundation Khachik Sahakyan.

Members of the public network of journalists created by ecolur within LILA project also participated in the training.

Martun Khachatryan and Mariam Yeganyan, public journalists from Sevkar and Dsegh, covered the courses and published materials on "Voice of Public Journalists" Facebook group.

Martun Khachatryan posted: “During the discussion, ideas were exchanged on climate change mitigation and adaptation. Against the backdrop of global warming, agriculture suffers great losses, pastures turn into dry deserts, as a result of which animal husbandry is significantly reduced. Rivers and springs become scarce."

Mariam Yeganyan posted: “Climate change mitigation and adaptation measures were discussed during the meeting. One of the topics discussed was global warming, which causes great damage to agriculture, the reduction of pasture resources, as a result of which animal husbandry is significantly reduced, and water resources are depleted. Residents of rural settlements got acquainted with the measures aimed at the rational use of pastures. Steps to mitigate global warming were discussed.”
