Although Armenia is one of the least greenhouse gas emitting countries in the world, it has undertaken an international obligation to reduce these emissions. The communities and settlements of Armenia are not exempt from the fulfillment of this obligation. The EU's Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy initiative brings together thousands of local and regional authorities who have voluntarily committed to deliver on the EU's climate and energy goals. On the roof of the administrative building of the Dsegh settlement of Tumanyan consolidated community, a 15-kW solar autonomous plant was installed, the second floor and the roof were repaired. The works were carried out by WWF Armenia within the frameworks of LILA project “Living Landscapes for Market Development in Armenia (LILA)”.
The rooftop plant of Dsegh administrative center has produced around 9MWh of energy so far, due to which 3.6 tons of CO2 were not emitted into the atmosphere and a budget saving of around 460,000 AMD was implemented, not counting the savings from thermal insulation and aesthetic advantages. Dsegh street lighting is provided due to the station system.
