Recommendations from  Discussion “Yerevan’s Needs as a Climate-Vulnerable Area”

EcoLur Informational NGO, with the support of the People Powered Global Hub for Participatory Democracy and in cooperation with Yerevan Municipality, implemented “Civil Society Becomes an Active Participant in Yerevan’s Green Transition” project. Within its framework, roundtable titled “Yerevan’s Needs as a Climate-Vulnerable Area” was organized.

Participants in the roundtable included Diana Harutyunyan, Senior Advisor to the UN Climate Change Programme in Armenia; Amalya Hambardzumyan, President of “Khazer” Eco-Cultural NGO and expert Aram Gabrielyan; Sona Ayvazyan, Executive Director of Transparency International Anti-Corruption Center, and Program Specialist Meri Minasyan; Knarik Grigoryan, expert at “Armenian Women for Health and a Healthy Environment” NGO; Dshkhuhi Sahakyan, expert on biodiversity, ecosystems and land use for Green City Action Plan at the Caucasus Regional Environmental Center’s Armenia office; Nune Saghakyan, President of “Women in Climate and Energy” NGO; Armen Danielyan, lecturer and researcher at AUA; and the EcoLur team.

The discussion focused on Yerevan’s Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP). As a result of the discussion, participants made the following recommendations:

Clarify the necessity of holding public hearings on SECAP;
Address data collection issues within SECAP by ensuring accurate and reliable data in all directions and components;
Inventory Yerevan’s green spaces;
Improve the monitoring system of measures and involve the public in the monitoring process.
