Our agriculture is incurring big losses in regard with hazardous climatic phenomena, while their frequency and length have increased in the recent decade. Under Armenian Climate Change Information Center, the situation has significantly deteriorated in the recent 20 years, as Armenia refers to countries with high risks for agriculture.
Thus, the volumes of irrigation water will be reduced by 25-30% with the forecasted climate changes, soil moisture will gradually cut down by 10-30%, soil evaporation increase will result in its salinization, heavy rains and floods, droughts and hot dry winds will cause soil erosion.
By 2030 the productivity of the following crops is forecasted: grains will on average decrease by 9-13%, vegetables – by 7-14%, potato – by 8-10%, fruit – by 5-8%.
