In accordance with the forecasting of the UNDP Climate Change Programme, the further, the more Armenia will experience drastic need in water. The UNDP Climate Change Programme Coordinator Diana Harutyunayn made a speech at the international conference dedicated to the UNECE’s Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes. The conference was organized by “Armenian Women for Health and Healthy Environment” NGO.
Diana Harutyunayn outlined the reduction of precipitation in the form of snow.”By 2030 the precipitation will reduce by 7-11% as compared with that of 1961-1990. By 2100 they may reduce by 40%. The quality of water will also deteriorate, as the amount of pollutants will also increase in it,” the report says. Harutyunyan said. “Among heavy consequences. are hunger, deterioration of epidemiological situation and even the destruction of health infrastructure.”
For our part it should be mentioned that the time periods estimated for the forecasting of the UNDP Climate Change Programme are approaching. And children born in the recent decade may experience these serious consequences not only in 2030, but also in 2070. And those born now have an opportunity to eye witness all this in 2100.
