“Jinj Arpa” LLC has submitted “Arpa-3” SHPP project for the environmental expertise to Nature Protection Ministry, the SHPP is planned to be constructed on the Arpa River in Vayots Dzor Region.
In 2013 EcoLur’s journalists held a sociological survey in the community to find out the impact of the SHPP on the community. Out of 5394 Jermuk Town residents only one person attended the public hearings on the SHPP held at Jermuk Municipality on 14 November.
Five out of sic surveyed had no idea about the hearings at all. Five people out of the surveyed noted the SHPP won’t affect their life quality. At the same time four people think that the SHPP construction will affect on their water supply, fish reduction in the river will be observed, while five people are sure that the emigration from their town will increase after the SHPP construction. Six people out of the surveyed supported the SHPP construction, one opposed to it, and two people were indifferent to this issue.
