“Artavan HPP” Company has submitted construction projects of two SHPPs “Artavan” to Nature Protection Ministry, and both SHPPs must be construction on the Artavan River, Vayots Dzor Region in a distance of only 70 meters far from each other. The main parameters are as follows: the capacity of each SHPP is 3 million kW/h and 4.73 million kW/h, respectively. The environmental flow is minimum – 0.23 cum/sec and 0.17 cum/sec. The length of the derivation pipes makes up 1326 meters and 1620 meters.
It should be noted that “Jahuk” Company has already constructed “Artavan-1” HPP on the river, which derivation length is 3721.5. It means that the Artavan River, which has only a length of 19 km, will piped or a distance of 6667.5 meters or 35% of the river will be left without water. Under EcoLur’s Risk Analysis Model, which uses the methodology of assessing the environmental state of areas (RF, 1993), the river ecosystem will be in disastrous situation.
