Flagrant “Arpa 3” SHPP has been a positive opinion from “Environmental Expertise” SNCO of Nature Protection Ministry. The construction of this SHPP caused concerns, as the first project said that the SHPP shall be constructed in the area of “Jermuk” hydrological reserve.
But when the environmental society expressed its concerns, a new project was submitted to the environmental expertise, which outlined that SHPP had been taken out of the area of the reserve and no explosions will be carried out. Nevertheless, the opinion of the environmental expertise says, if needed, small explosions can be carried out. It should be mentioned that environmentalists were concerned that explosions would affect on the mineral waters in the hydrological reserve generating risk of water disappearance. Another reason for concerns is cutting down 442 trees and bushes for laying derivation pipeline. Instead, “Jinj-Arpa” Company proposes to plant 500 trees and to take care of them for 4 years. The locals are concerned with tree felling, as tree grow with difficulties around the Arpa River because of its mountainous location.
