EcoLur’s New Video: Supporting Armenia in Preparation for COP17

EcoLur has released its new video titled “Supporting Armenia in Preparation for COP17”: the video was produced within the framework of “Supporting Armenia in Preparation for COP17 Conference of Parties” project.

In October 2026, Yerevan will host the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). Within the framework of the project, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Regional Environmental Centre for the Caucasus (REC Caucasus), in close cooperation with RA Environment Ministry, are supporting this process by enhancing the knowledge and preparedness of national stakeholders.

As part of the initiative, a series of capacity-building workshops titled “Biodiversity Strategies and Key Documents” were held in Yerevan and Dilijan. During these workshops, project experts presented to representatives of governmental, diplomatic, international, and civil society institutions the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Nagoya Protocol, the Cartagena Protocol, the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP), as well as strategic directions for participation in COP17, COP17 priorities, and the outcomes of COP16.

In the video, workshop participants and experts explain how Armenia is preparing for the CBD COP17 conference, emphasizing the importance of such an international platform for strengthening cooperation, generating new ideas, and finding joint solutions to biodiversity challenges.

They reflect on the capacity-building workshops, international conventions and protocols, as well as national strategies and priorities. Participants highlight the importance of biodiversity conservation, viewing it not only from an environmental perspective but also from a socio-economic standpoint. They discuss climate change and the increasing pressure on ecosystems, and emphasize the need for active engagement of civil society, communities, and the private sector to ensure effective and sustainable solutions.

The material was produced within the framework of “Supporting Armenia in Preparation for COP17 Conference of Parties” project implemented by UNEP and REC Caucasus in cooperation with RA Environment Ministry.
