“It’s technically feasible to transfer water to Lake Sevan through Arpa-Sevan tunnel, nevertheless, conditioned with the decrease in the water flow in Arpa and Yeghegis Rivers and the need to meet the demand for irrigation water for the land areas getting their water supply from Kechout reservoir, a decision has been reached to suspend the water transfer to the lake through Arpa-Sevan tunnel starting from 21 July to store water in the reservoir for irrigation purposes, as Water Committee of RA Ministry for Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources letter says in reply to the letter addressed to Levon Galstyan, member of Armenian Environmental Front.
“Over the recent 8 years, 618 million cum water has been let out of Kechout reservoir for irrigation purposes. Whether this entire amount has been let out only for irrigation purposes or for serving also the interests and demand of SHPPs? Seeking to find out this matter,” this is how Levon Galstyan commented on the reply of Water Committee on Facebook.
