An expert round table on "Energy Development in Armenia under Paris Agreement" was held at EcoLur Press Club on February 26, 2021. In her opening remarks, Inga Zarafyan, President of “EcoLur” Informational NGO, said that the purpose of these meetings is to familiarize the civil society more closely with the policy pursued by various governmental agencies to ensure transparency.
Nona Budoyan, Head of Climate Policy Department of RA Environment Ministry, mentioned that climate change is a comprehensive and serious problem that requires urgent solutions. "Within the framework of UNDP/GEF Small Grants Programme, our partner has implemented a number of projects since 2010, aimed at identifying opportunities for the use of renewable energy sources and exchanging best practices," she said.
Vahagn Atanyan, Head of Energy Efficiency and Technical Normative Division of Energy Department of RA Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, noted that the vision laid down in "RA Energy Sector Development Strategic Program (until 2040)" will be the underlying basis of all decisions in the energy sector.
Organizing such discussions, UNDP Climate Change Programme Coordinator Diana Harutyunyan outlined that decisions related to climate policy reached by the Government of the Republic of Armenia should be discussed in wider circles. "If we establish partnerships with communities, professionals and institutions, we will be able to make those decisions a reality," she said.
Vahan Sargsyan, Head of Strategic Center of “Scientific Research Institute of Energy” CJSC, presented "Strategic Program for Development of Energy Sector of the Republic of Armenia (until 2040)" and Renewable energy under Paris Agreement. Expert Tigran Sekoyan presented the data by RA Cadastre on greenhouse gases. Astghine Pasoyan, Director of the Foundation to Save Energy, presented RA Energy Efficiency, Energy Saving Program for 2020-2030.
