On September 14, 2022, "EcoLur" Informational NGO sent a request to RA Minister of Emergency Situations, Armen Pambukhchyan, to find out the condition of the existing shelters and hiding places in Armenia, and also expressed its support to the ministry in terms of providing the necessary information to the population.
Border settlements, as well as those in ANPP impact zone, where there are no anti-radiation shelters, personal protective equipment, or stable iodine preparations, are especially vulnerable.
We suggest that, the specialists of RA Ministry of Emergency Situations, together with the employees of local self-government bodies, carry out awareness-raising activities on the ground about the necessary steps in the event of an air raid among the population, inform about the location of the hiding places in the given area, etc. both in the settlements of all regions of Armenia, as well as in Yerevan in order to increase the awareness of the population and increase their trust in state bodies.
We propose to promptly take measures in 25 settlements in Armavir and Aragatsotn Regions to ensure radiation safety of the local population. We express our willingness to support the ministry within our capabilities," EcoLur inquiry says.
In response, Lilit Mirzakhanyan, Secretary General of RA Ministry of Emergency Situations, stated in her letter dated on September 28, 2022, that studies of the places of shelter for the population and employees of organizations are currently being conducted, and local self-government bodies are working on notifying the residents of their places of refuge.
