High pollution with heavy metals was detected in Qaraberd of Pambak consolidated community, Melikgyugh of Aparan consolidated community, Meghradzor of Tsaghkadzor consolidated community and Ararat and Surenavan of Ararat consolidated community.
On December 14, the results of two-year-long "Participation of Civil Society in Protection of Chemical Safety in Armenia" project were summarized in Yerevan.
The project was implemented with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic in cooperation with Czech "Arnika" NGO, Armenian " Center for Community Mobilization and Support" and "EnoLur" Informational NGOs.
Project Coordinator Valeriya Grechko from "Arnika" organization presented the research results.
A total of 135 test samples were taken, out of which 53 were environmental test samples and 82 were biological samples.
The results of the analysis of samples taken from Ararat, Surenavan settlements show that the studied areas are characterized as moderately and heavily polluted with arsenic and moderately polluted with chromium and nickel.
A high concentration of arsenic was found in the biological samples.
According to the results of the analysis of the test samples taken from the territory of Qaraberd settlement, the studied areas are characterized as moderately and heavily polluted with arsenic and cadmium and moderately polluted with lead and zinc.
Levels of cadmium, copper and nickel in biological samples were high in both men and women.The area of Melikgyugh settlement is characterized as moderately to heavily polluted with arsenic, cadmium and chromium. A high concentration of arsenic and nickel was found in the biological samples.
