Action Plan for the Implementation of Decision VII/8a of the Parties to the Aarhus Convention (Convention on Access to Environmental Information, Public Participation in Decision-Making and Access to Justice) on Armenia was sent to the Compliance Committee on June 30, 2022, as Mari Chakryan, National Coordinator of Aarhus Convention, Legal Advisor of Ministry of Environment, informed "EcoLur".
"According to the decision VII/8a made regarding Armenia at the 7th session of the parties to the Aarhus Convention in October 2021, Armenia had to review the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) procedures and issues of public participation, deadlines, public involvement in decision-making, as well as the right of NGOs to apply to the court. The fourth point was the matter of training of judges in order to be aware of legislative reforms,” Mari Chakryan mentioned.
On June 16, a regular discussion with representatives of Armenian NGOs was organized at Environment Ministry. Suggestions and comments were collected on specific points of the draft plan.
She emphasized that the actions included in the plan should be completed and reported to the Secretariat of the Convention by October 2024.
