UN Special Rapporteur Michel Forst presented the international mechanisms for the protection of human rights defenders. He reminded that his mandate is based on Article 8 of the Aarhus Convention, which is legally binding and strictly prohibits states from penalizing or persecuting persons exercising their environmental rights. Armenia joined the convention in 2001, assuming direct obligations.
