The situation in the Mashtots Park is tense. The Civil Initiative Group for the dismantlement of the boutiques, the first ten people and the rest twenty people, who joined the group later, made some measurements in the Mashtots Park in the morning of April 4 and members of the initiative group, political scientist Andreas Ghukasyan, blogger Armen Hovhannisyan and film director Tigran Khzmalyan managed to enter one of the boutiques. But the police officers moved them from the boutiques using force.
In response to the claim of the Group to arrest them, the police didn’t do anything but only said that they will not arrest them unless the situation becomes uncontrollable.
There are plenty of red berets and Special Forces in the Park.
The Initiative issued a statement. Coordinator of the group Andreas Ghukasyan said that today’s events in the park showed the police didn’t punish a person who fights for the protection of the law. It is our victory, he said.
Ghukasyan said that if the situation goes on this way, the government will generate a wider movement in the country which will no longer be directed against the boutiques but the system that forces the police defend illegalities. “They are not to blame for they ate forced to do that”, he said.
He stated that their aim is to show the citizen fighting for their rights is immune and they have already reached this goal. Ghukasyan said that their next action will be to blockade the boutiques and the police will remain in the circle made by the citizens.
