Every year on 5 June the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) celebrates World Environment Day (WED). This year’s theme is ‘Green Economy: Does it Include You?’.
Armenia declares about its commitment to 'green economy' at governmental level. Whether the official bodies are responsible for environmental policy can give an answer why our rivers are polluted with industrial wastes and sewage? Or for the government which underfinances forest sector? How the government opposed to public requirements that our wealth such as molybdenum, gold, copper and other precious and nonferrous metals served to people, country and state, and didn't flow to the private accounts in the offshore zones. What to do with the companies, which pollute environment to pay future generations for leaving dead zones? Whether any initiatives were stimulated which help to preserve aid, water, soil and to solve the problem with wastes? The alarm signals we have received from ecological hot spots such as Syunik, Lori, Gegharkounik, ararat, Tavush, Amravir, Kotayk witness just the opposite.
The green economy must be not just a slogan, but action for the government, political elite and only then it can turn into a life style for people living in that country.
