In regard with the incident connected with the elections into local self government in Akhtala Town there are already arrested people. According to the police, on 30 August they received a signal about the assault on Ashtala Mayor Haykaz Khachikyan by a Bodol (Head of Security of Akhtala Ore Processing Combine Arsen Chichyan). As the police found out, Arsen Chichyan and Shnogh villager Edgar Hakhverdyan attacked on Karen Khachikyan’s house (Mayor’s brother), broke the door and crashed the furniture, caused damage to Mercedes Benz car, thus causing significant damage.
A criminal case has been initiated under Article 185 (3) of the Criminal Code of Armenia. The police also inform that when Karen Khachikyan learned about what had happened, together with hic cousin he headed for Arsen Chichyan’s house and assaulted his family members and crushed their furniture. Edgar Hakhverdyan is arrested, while Karen Khachikyan is detained.
It should be noted that Akhtala Ore Processing Combine is a town forming enterprise, i.e. not only combine employees, but also their family members working in service industry are connected with the combine. As it’s known the owner of the combine Serob Ter-Poghosyan serves in prison with the charge of pedophilia. What is going on now in Akhtala reminds not only fight for authorities, but redistribution of property, in the assets are Akhtala Ore Processing Combine and Shamloukh copper mine.
