“In the course of constructing “Jermuk-1” small HPP from 250 to 500 trees may be cut down. While the forestry representative didn’t have any information about the project of small HPP before the public hearings. If the construction works will really be carried out in forest territory, wildlife preserve, we categorically oppose to it,” said the representative of “Center for Jermuk Development” NGO representative Vazgen Galstyan.

Reminder: on 20 August public hearings on the project of “Jermuk-1” small HPP construction project were held submitted by “Jermuk Turboshin” Company. The construction process has been launched two months before holding public hearings.

Participant to public hearings, Jermuk resident Macedon Aleksanyan, “We were very displeased with the hearings. There were only 13-14 people, out of which five were company representatives, one was from Nature Protection Ministry, one was from forestry enterprise and so on…I personally learnt about the hearings only on the eve of them, in the evening. We needed time to examine the project, legislative acts, but not time for them. It turned out at the hearings that the license has been issued 7 years ago. But if the construction is not carried out, the license becomes null and void after three years…There was a debate between the town architect and forestry enterprise. They couldn’t make it out whose territory it was,” he noted, “it was a real bazaar.”

Vazgen Galstyan, “one year ago there was an agreement signed with Jermuk Municipality, but the municipality was not consecutive and didn’t check what kind of problems there are.”

Makedon Aleksanyan: “The hearings were held on 20 August, but the process itself had started two months before. I spoke about the problem, but nothing changed. They should be stopped, and this should be done by Nature Protection Ministry, i.e. the competent body.”
