It’s still a month since the elections to local self-government have been finished, but the impression is the local elections have been forgotten about, while everybody deals only with the upcoming presidential elections. But the community residents, where the elections to local self-government have been held, can’t forget these elections and still feel the atmosphere of pressure and fear.
Gayane Khachatryan, “Aregouni” NGO, about the elections in Gegharkounik region. “I was surprised, when the dashnaks (Aremenian Revolutionary Federation) acted according to regional head’s instructions. If there is any political will, demonstrate it at last, fight. If the political forces haven't established themselves, then what to demand from people? ”
Irina Hovhannisyan, Coordinator of Territorial Center for Studies and Development, 'The atmosphere of unlawfulness reign here and the observer thinks it's much better to remain silent. No matter, it' won't favour anything. According to the documents, the elections were held in a lawful manner, nevertheless, de facto, everything was held like everywhere in Armenia with the use of all possible technologies.'
Ttujur villager, 'I am the only person in the family who is employed. I have my children, two of them are students. I must sustain them even by the blood. If I lose my job, you can see on your own, there are many ways of pressure. I don't feel being a human being, such a pressure was exercised that I couldn't do anything, neither me or my son.'
