Not Everything is Quiet at Deno Gold Mining

Our sources from Kapan expressed their concern with the fact that Deno Gold Mining Company is firing its emploуees. They think this is due to the fact that the company intends to proceed to the opencast development of Shahumyan mine and probably, in this way, seeks to influence on public opinion. As our sources inform, dismissals have started, which even resulted in the skirmish with company managers in Administrative Director Hrach Jabrayan’s presence. The company itself denies the fact of wide-scale dismissals. Below we present a brief digest of the press on the aforementioned topic. The “Aravot” Newspaper writes that “dismissals and redundancies of the employees in recent period have set rather tense situation and caused high tension among Kapan population and combine employees…If things go on like this, the wave of dissatisfaction will burst out, as it happened before (2009-2010), said residents who wanted to stay incognito…”

The Aravot also published the position of Deno Gold Mining: Company’s Administrative Director Hrach Jabreyan in his interview with the Aravot mentioned: “there is nо official redundancy of the employees in the company, what about dismissals, these employees were fired due to serious grounds – theft, sleeping during working hours, laziness etc. In reply to the Aravot’s question, whether or not there is real redundancy of jobs, Jabreyan answered, “Within one week 30 people were dismissed, while 12 people were hired.”

The “168 Hours” newspaper also covered this topic in the interview with PR officer Gayane Tadevosyan… In reply to the question about 60 dismissals, G. Tadevosyan said nothing like that happened, 30 people were dismissed on different grounds”.

For our part we would like to remind that in 2010-2011 the company actively discussed the opencast development project and announced that it was a way for the company to operate intensively and to maintain working places, nevertheless the project received the negative opinion of the local public.
