The level of Lake Sevan, the only strategic reserve of the freshwater in the Caucasus, has reduced. According to the Gavar Aarhus Center, the level indicator for this year is lower than that of the last year, 1900 meters 19 cm, by 3 cm. The reason is the unprecedented amount of water outlet carried out this year. Under RA Law RA Law "On approving Annual Complex Programs for Recovery, Preservation, Reproduction and Usage of Lake Sevan”, a maximum of 170 million square meters of water is permitted to let out of Lake Sevan. Nevertheless, sue to joint efforts of legislative and executive authorities of Armenia, amendments were made to a number of Armenian laws on Lake Sevan very rapidly and it was decided to make the amount of water outlet up to 320 million square meters. Neither the National Assembly nor the Armenian Government took into consideration the opinion of environmentalists in decision-making, who were beating alarm signals that so much water outlet would damage Sevan ecosystem. According to the official website of Gegharkounik Region, the maximum indicator for Lake Sevan level in June made up 1900 meters 46 cm. As of 18 August, it reduced by 10 cm and as of 18 September, it was reduced by 20 cm. The reduction process was in progress still October, afterwards the lake level remains almost the same due to little inputs and precipitation.
