The territory of mines in Yerevan in the process of development makes up 2.56 square km. The letter says that the figure submitted complied with the certificate of mine allocation issued by Energy and Natural Resources Ministry.
Reminder: EcoLur has addressed an enquiry to the Yerevan Municipality, Nature Protection Ministry and Energy and Natural Resources Ministry regarding the state of mining industry in Yerevan City and proposed to hold public hearings. The Energy Ministry letter mentions that for now there are no new claims for the development of mines in the territory of Yerevan. When it comes to the expansion of activities of mining companies and control, the Ministry makes a reference to the current legislation in force. “The expansion of the activities of the mines already in development is carried out in accordance with RA Law “On Soil” and RA Law “On Environmental Control”…The awareness of the population should be carried out in accordance with Article 6 of RA Law “On Environmental Impact Expert Assessment””, the letter says.
Reminder: Nature Protection Ministry, in reply to EcoLur’s enquiry, agreed with its proposal to hold public hearings in Yerevan on the impact of 29 open mines developed in the ranges of the city. Nevertheless, Yerevan Municipality, which is an immediate stakeholder and which is committed to holding these hearings, hasn’t dispatched any reply.
