It’s not excluded that Lake Sevan will turn into a fish farm. The fish farm owned by Emmi Fruit is already operating in the lake. Nature Protection Minister Aram Harutyunyan has positively valued this tendency. “If these experiments will work and pays for itself, it will be good, if such small fish farms appear in Sevan,” the Minister thinks, “not only for the nurture of the young fish, but also for the breeding of the big fish.” The fish farm by Emmi Fruit Company is located near Shorzha beach. Under the company plans, the young fish weighing 250-300 grams should be grown in the lake, afterwards a part of the young fish will be let out into the lake, while the other part will be sold. According to our information, the young fish haven’t been let out as of today. Nevertheless the main condition hasn’t been fulfilled so far –to substantiate scientifically whether the fish farm doesn’t pollute Sevan water with nitrogen and phosphorus, which the artificial forage contain due to which the young fish will weigh from 40 grams to 250 grams within several months.
