On April 8 the Environmental committee by Yerevan Municipality decided to apply to Yerevan Mayor to immediately include the project of laying a sewer pipe along Hrazdan Gorge in its further program. Yerevan Aarhus Center has filed this proposal to the committee as www.aarhus.am website informs. “According to this proposal, the sewer pipe should start near Davtashen bridge and join the sewer collector operating near Yerevan Lake including all sewer pipes of the buildings located in Hrazdan Gorge (which are currently poured out into the river.)” Besides essentially improving the environmental state of the Hrazdan River, the construction of sewer collector solved the problem of community safety for Yerevan city, as the central sewer pipe passes in the front of Davtashen bridge next to Hradan Gorge and in case of any fractures the sewer will pour out into the Hrazdan River thus creating dangerous sanitary state for the whole city. The proposed collector will play a secondary role excluding the aforementioned emergency,” the website says.
Still in 2006 “Hayjrnakhagits Institute” CJSC drew up project documentation for the leaning Yerevan lake and constructing a littoral sewer pipe in the Hrazdan River with the total cost of 1.5 billion AMD, which were not included in the programs of Yerevan Municipality because of lack of financial funds.
