Prince Charles’s upcoming visit to Armenia sparked stir among active environmental society in Armenia. Under officially disseminated information, Prince Charles will visit Armenia from 28 to 30 May as a guest of “Yerevan-My Love” Fund founded by Ex PM and Ex Ambassador in Great Britain Armen Sargsyan.
The members of various civic initiatives on Facebook have created a social event called “Prince Charles, arriving to open mine?”
The matter is that still one month ago the Armenian mass media started publishing that Prince Charles will visit Amulsar gold mine which is to be developed by Lydian International Company. Armen Sargsyan is supposed to arrange this visit, who has recently been appointed the Director of Lydian International Company.
The activists are actively getting ready for Prince Charles’s visit. At present a statement has been circulated that the activists had a meeting at the UK Embassy in Armenia where the activists were assured Prince Charles’s visit program doesn’t include a visit to Amulsar mine. It also says that the Prince actively deals with nature protection and makes donations to WWF. “Taking into account that Prince Charles is engaged with environmental charity we will try to bring to his attention that Amulsar mine development has certain environmental and social problems,” the activists’ post on Facebook says.
