Syunik Regional Governor Surik Khachatryan’s resignation in regard with the well-known tragic incident in Goris caused activity in the administration at different levels, particularly in Syunik. In Qajaran, Kapana and Meghri odds are given to locals. Among discussed candidates is Qajaran Mayor Vardan Gevorgyan and most of people we spoke to treated him positively. We learnt that in this regard Kapan Ex Mayor Arthur Atayan, Syunik Ex Governor Edik Barseghyan, Head of Syunik Territorial Environmental Inspection Lenik Petrosyan, Serzh Sargsyan’s relative, military Vardan Avetisyan and Deputy Sport and Youth Minister Arsen Qaramyan have also taken measures. We asked how much Zangezour Copper and Molybdenum Combine Director Maksim Hakobyan was interested in these affairs. Everybody thought that Maksim Hakobyan had his own interests without governor’s powers. “His interest is who will be the governor,” we were told without excluding that his son, MP Vahe Hakobyan would like to hold this position.
Most Kapan residents are sure that Syunik Regional Governor’s post will most probably be held by acting governor Ara Dolunts, who s stands close to Surik Khachatryan. “If the governor is Ara Dolunts, no shifts in Syunik will take place, if nothing else happens,” said our sources from Kapan.
