The public hearings on the irrigation system submitted by “Haygyughshinnakhagits” LLC will be held at 11:00 in Agarak Village and at 14:00 Shvanidzor on 18 July. In line with the submitted project, it’s supposed to irrigate the land areas of Meghri, Agarak, Shvanidzor, Alvanq, Varchashen, Nrnadzor community with gravity method saving 3.89 million kw/hr power. The water will be taken from Meghri River leaving an environmental flow of 0.16 l/sec. It is noted that the water of Meghri River is not polluted and not mineralized, and consequently, can’t have any adverse affect on the irrigation. The construction will take 15 months. Trees are supposed to be cut down, while their amount is not mentioned in the project. The project only says that new trees will be planted instead of chopped trees, in the proportion of 1:3. Red-listed animals and birds are also met in the territory. “The construction may directly affect on the vegetation of the territory and threaten the nesting of birds, and migration corridors of the passing animals,” the project says.
The project is supported by the World Bank which has allotted a loan for “IRRIGATION REHABILITATION EMERGENCY PROJECT” program.
