“Biosophia” NGO considers the mechanisms of public participation in the management board of the State Environmental Inspection of Nature Protection Ministry illogical and unfair. “In his opinion on RA PM’s decision “On Establishing Members of Management Board of State Environmental Inspection of Nature Protection Ministry of RA” “Biosophia” NGO Chairman Gevorg Petrosyan calls for the Armenian Government to make amendments to the decision and to introduce more fair and reasonable mechanisms of election.”
Reminder: On 10 September Nature Protection Ministry circulated a statement, which said that NGOs can take part in the management boards of State Environmental Inspection of Nature Protection Ministry.
Under RA government decision, the first two applicants have been selected to be included into the board, “Arqayanist” Scientific-Production Foundation Director and “Ankakhutyan Serund” NGO representative, while “Biosophia” NGO has been rejected, as its application was not in the top list.
“The Armenian Government has presented to the whole world as a positive example of ensuring public participation in the activities of State Environmental Inspection of Nature Protection Ministry, while the mechanism for selection of NGOs is illogical, i.e. first-come-first-serve basis without taking into consideration the profile of that organization, its public activities and track-record in environment preservation etc. Besides, the government decision enables the Nature Protection Ministry to select those NGOs for the inclusion in its management board, as it finds “expedient”, and the public has no real chance to find it out whether the organizations have factually been the first to apply or not,” Gevorg Petrosyan writes.
