The Pan-Armenian Environmental Front is appealing the refusal to initiate a criminal case on the violations committed during the projecting, designing and construction of “Khachaghbyur-2” SHPP. The PEF has applied to Public Prosecutor Gevorg Kostanyan, which particularly said,
“In recent years the Public Prosecutor’s Office and Armenian Police didn’t have even one case of proper leading and just decision on the facts submitted by environmental civic initiatives about violations and crimes.”
The vivid example is “Khachaghbyur-2” SHPP being constructed on the Paghjur Tributary of the Aghstev River by “Megaenergy” LLC.
“Khachaghbyur-2” SHPP is constructed on the borders of “Ijevan” State Reserve, which violates the requirements of Articles 18 and 20 of RA Law “On Specially Protected Areas of Nature,” the press release says. The PEF is demanding to carry out thorough, comprehensive and objective investigation in regard with “Khachaghbyur-2” SHPP construction and to bring all people liable for violations to responsibility.”
