Armenian Botanical Society Responded to Fish Farming Project in Sevan

EcoLur

Sevan project on establishing a fish farm in Lake Sevan caused wide-scale discussions. A number of environmental organizations, other NGOs and civic initiatives opposed to this project (see their application to the president, parliament and government http://ecolur.org/en/news/sevan/vcomplex-program-for-recovery-of-trout-reserves-and-fish-breeding-in-lake-sevanv-widescale-project-bears-uncontrollable-risks-for-lake-sevan/5751/). We are publishing the individual decision of the Armenian Botanical Society, which says,

'At its meeting the 'Armenian Botanical Society' discussed this project and reached a unanimous decision about the need for the recovery of Lake Sevan ecosystem, which is impossible without the recovery of its natural fauna.

Without being professionals in aquaculture fisheries and without getting convincing evidence of its definite harm for Sevan, we can't put our signatures under this appeal.

We think this project needs more comprehensive and in-depth expertise to have competent answers to all questions.

Vice President of Armenian Botanical Society
