'As an echtyiologist and professor at Armenian State Pedagogical University at Kh. Abovyan, as well as Vice-Chairman of 'Reforms of Professional Education' NGO, I oppose to this project aimed at producing trout in Lake Sevan the way it was presented during public hearings. I think the results of the pilot project, which are considered to be grounds for this project implementation, are extremely insufficient for the implementation of such an ambitious project. At the same time, I would like to ask to take into consideration the following approaches and problems in your appeal:

  • In case 50,000 tons of fish is grown in the area of Lake Sevan, such ecological processes will get drastically active that the whole ecosystem of Lake Sevan will be irreversibly destroyed,
  • In case of feeding fish with artificial forages the amount of nitrogen and phosphorus will drastically increase in the lake, which will make the water of the lake unfit for the majority of organisms living there, including fish causing their death or drastic deterioration of living conditions,
  • Large amount of fish in relatively small areas contains a potential hazard of generating diseases, bursting out epidemic and spreading their unpredictable consequences,
  •  Unprecedented quick growth of the fish grown during the pilot project with artificial forages can cause to the genetic mutations of the trout and modification distortions, which will, in its turn, affect in the purity of the given fish genofond,
  • The legal frameworks of the monitoring and the competences of the monitoring group are not properly developed, as well as the number of planned working places is exaggerated.
